JPMorgan brings JPM Coin to Ethereum for institutions

JPMorgan has expanded its JPM Coin deposit token to Ethereum, giving institutional clients another public blockchain for moving dollar-denominated deposits onchain. The token represents existing deposits at the bank, and its Ethereum support adds to its availability on Base, according to The Block’s report on the announcement.

What does JPM Coin represent on Ethereum?

JPM Coin, also known as JPMD, is a digital representation of JPMorgan’s existing U.S. dollar deposits. In this setup, the deposit is represented by a token that institutional clients can transfer onchain. The token is denominated in dollars; Ethereum is the network on which transfers can take place. It is a bit like putting a bank deposit’s digital record onto a shared ledger, so a transfer can be recorded there.

The token is not described as a general-purpose coin for retail users. The announcement concerns JPMorgan’s institutional clients. The Block reported that JPMD supports peer-to-peer transfers within the Ethereum Virtual Machine ecosystem, including on Ethereum and Base. That means the token is available across both networks; the report does not specify the process or conditions for moving tokens between them.

How does the Ethereum expansion change the transfer route?

Before this expansion, JPMD was launched on Base in November 2025. Base is an Ethereum Layer 2 network. Adding Ethereum gives institutional clients another network in the same broad EVM ecosystem for peer-to-peer transfers. The basic sequence is: a JPMorgan deposit is represented as JPMD, a client initiates a transfer, and the transaction is recorded on a supported network.

JPMorgan said Ethereum’s depth of onchain liquidity and tokenized assets made it a natural next public blockchain for the token, The Block reported. The expansion therefore connects the bank’s deposit token to a network where tokenized assets already operate. It does not, by itself, establish that every asset or service on Ethereum can use JPMD.

What scale does JPMorgan report for Kinexys?

Kinexys, JPMorgan’s blockchain business, has processed more than $4 trillion in cumulative transactions, with an average daily transaction volume of $7 billion, the bank said in the statement reported by The Block. Those figures describe the platform overall; they are not reported as JPMD transaction totals.

The Ethereum expansion gives institutional clients an additional onchain route for JPMD transfers while keeping the token tied to deposits at JPMorgan. The announcement confirms the new network support and the token’s peer-to-peer transfer capability. It does not provide a launch date beyond Monday’s announcement, client names, or transaction limits.
