Fairshake announced plans to support 32 House candidates in November’s midterms, backing lawmakers who supported the crypto industry’s stalled CLARITY Act, according to The Associated Press. The slate includes 19 Republicans and 13 Democrats; six candidates will each receive $1 million in spending.
Fairshake is a super PAC registered as an independent expenditure-only committee. That means its money funds political activity independently of candidates’ campaigns, rather than going directly to those campaigns. The Federal Election Commission’s Fairshake committee profile classifies it as independent expenditure-only and explains that these expenditures support or oppose candidates without giving them the funds directly.
How does Fairshake’s spending reach these races?
Fairshake pays for its own political activity to support selected candidates. It does not hand the announced $1 million to each candidate’s campaign. The FEC requires committees to report independent expenditures, including in regular filings and, when applicable, separate 24-hour or 48-hour reports. The distinction matters: Fairshake can spend to influence a race, while the campaign does not control that spending.
Why did the CLARITY Act stall in the Senate?
The bill stalled after lawmakers failed to agree on rules addressing ethics and public officials’ crypto interests, among other issues. The House passed its version in July 2025, but the Senate blocked the measure in September on a procedural vote. Opponents said it did not adequately address President Donald Trump’s crypto investments. The bill aimed to establish a federal regulatory framework for digital assets, a central industry priority.
All 32 House members on Fairshake’s slate supported the legislation. The group’s selection therefore ties its election spending to a bill that did not clear the Senate. The organization has presented its work as bipartisan: its spokesperson told AP that Fairshake backs pro-crypto candidates in both parties.
Which House candidates get the largest support?
Three Democrats and three Republicans are named for $1 million in spending apiece. The Democrats are Reps. Janelle Bynum of Oregon, Steven Horsford of Nevada and Derek Tran of California. The Republicans are Reps. French Hill of Arkansas, Bryan Steil of Wisconsin and Bill Huizenga of Michigan. Fairshake did not disclose the amounts planned for the other 26 candidates.
The House slate is one part of the group’s larger election effort. Fairshake and affiliated PACs reported about $120 million in cash at the end of August, AP reported. In September, Fairshake also announced nearly $30 million in spending against Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown in Ohio. The group has not said how much more it will spend on House or Senate contests before Election Day.
